Cricket AGM and Season Averages

A very convivial Cricket Team AGM was held on Saturday November 22 saw around 30 of us wonderfully fed by Bricklayer’s landlady Becky’s other half David, who cooked a superb curry much appreciated by all.

As those in their first season are disbarred from trophies in the hope they will come back for a second season, Player of the Year went to Dave Winpenny for his longstanding service, while a special presentation was also made to Chris Locke for his “tireless efforts” organising the side.

Season Averages are now available on the Fixtures and Results page for the 2014 season.

Welsh Beer Festival – 24th to 28th September 2014

We’re excited to announce that our autumn beer festival returns on 24th to 28th September 2014. This year we’re heading to Wales to bring you a huge selection of 100 real ales from the valleys.

The beer list is available here.

World Cup Fever 2014

The world cup is just a few weeks away, and we’ll be showing the tournament on the big screen. Come and join us at The Bricklayer’s Arms to watch the games and sample some of the 12 real ales on the bar. We’ll also have a good selection of real ciders. And to keep your energy levels up during the penalty shoot-outs, we’ll be serving the multi award-winning Cornish pasties from the Chough bakery in Padstow.

Pint in one hand, pasty in another, shouting abuse at the screen… Heaven.

The Big One – Sahara Marathon

Dear Customers and Patrons of the Bricklayer’s Arms

I am writing to ask for your support in raising £3000 for Headway South-West London.

Between April 6th – 12th, I am taking part in the Marathon des Sables in memory of my sister Helen, who died from a brain haemorrhage at the age of 43. As many of you know this pub re-opened as a direct result of her untimely death.

The Marathon des Sables is an infamous ultra-running event through the Sahara desert. I will be running 160 miles, over the course of 6 days, through energy-sapping sand dunes, and in temperatures that can reach 55C. I will be given water and a place in a tent to sleep at night but will otherwise carry 10 kilos of equipment, food and first aid in my backpack while I run.

Headway South-West London is a local charity of which I am a trustee. We help victims of brain injury, their families and carers within the community, who are facing the same pain and fear that we experienced after Helen died.

This is by far my toughest challenge to date and I am anticipating a few what-on-Earth-were-you-thinking moments. It would help me enormously to know that my efforts were helping to support Headway.

To give, please either visit my fundraising site or sign one of the sponsorship forms in the book behind the bar.

Thank you very much indeed in anticipation of your kindness.

Becky Newman
