This is NOT TRUE! The pub is still open as usual.

Consultation on the Future of the Pub

Zac Monro Architects have been appointed by the landlady to look into proposals for refurbishment and the extension of the pub. The extension will form a new residential block as an alternative source of income which will prevent the closure of the pub. Unfortunately, the pub in its current state is financially unsustainable – this extension will ensure economic sustainability and secure the pub as a well-loved community asset.

Landlady Becky wins Wandsworth Civic Award

headway award

Landlady of the Bricklayer’s Arms, Becky Newman, has won a prestigious Wandsworth Civic Award in recognition of her fundraising for Headway South West London. Over the years, Becky has raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity, though her extreme marathon running which has seen her complete the North Pole Marathon, Marathon des Sable through the Sahara, and the Great Wall of China Marathon.

She was presented with the award on Monday by the mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Stuart Thom.

The fundraising continues on 26th November, with the Headway Quiz Night at the Bricklayer’s Arms. If you’d like to come along please email or to reserve your table.

Marathon des Sables Success

Dear All,

I made it!  I actually crossed the finish line of the 2014 Marathon des Sables.  I was slow, very slow.  The heat, sand and sheer scale of the Saharan landscape was brutal, and by the time I completed the long stage on day 4 I only had two toenails left and 40% of the skin on the bottom of my feet had gone.  I hobbled on for the final 30 miles, literally like walking on knives.  Never to be forgotten…

I am over the moon that I raised over £12,000 for Headway South-West London.  It will make a huge difference to the work we can achieve in the community.  I would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to all those who supported my cause.  Your generosity, as ever, is very humbling.

Thank you again.

very best,
Becky Newman
(The Landlady)

Cricket Team AGM

Saturday’s AGM was the usual fine and sober occasion as about 20 of us gathered in the Brick, splendidly fed and watered by Becky.

Congratulations to Fraser Wright for winning Player of the Year as our first bowler to take a six-for among his 19 wickets. He also averaged above 40 with the bat and is now the proud owner of an engraved tankard. Thanks to all for your support and help throughout the summer, especially to Mike Ottley for organising the midweek sides.

Season averages are now available on the page for the 2013 season reports.

CAMRA Community Pubs Charity Month

In line with CAMRA’s Community Pubs Charity Month, The Bricklayer’s Arms is running its own campaign throughout July.

Landlady Becky is currently half way through a tee-total year.  Yes, that’s right, a publican having a completely dry 2013.  It would be great if you would sponsor her in aid of her charity, Headway South-West London. We are aiming to raise £500 during July.
